Body, paint and structural only: the scope on a commercial truck
Start with what we do not do, because it saves a phone call. OCRV Center is a collision, body, paint, fiberglass and structural facility. On a commercial truck we repair sheet metal, composite panels, cab structure, body to chassis mounting, glass, and the equipment bolted to all of it. We do not open engines, drivetrains, transmissions or differentials, we do not perform brake work on heavy trucks, and we do not issue DOT inspections.
That division is normal in this industry. Your fleet maintenance provider or dealer service department keeps the truck legal and running. A body shop puts the truck back together after a dock strike, a low clearance hit, a merge gone wrong on the 10, a rollover or ten years of curb rash and rivet line corrosion. West Covina fleets almost always run both, and the two scopes do not overlap.
All of it happens inside the building at Yorba Linda. We do not offer mobile service and we do not send crews to customer yards. A truck that needs body work is driven to the shop, walked with an estimator on the floor, and stays with us until the work is released.

Van and box bodies: aluminum skin, FRP composite and the rivet line
Most cargo bodies on West Covina streets are one of two constructions. Sheet and post bodies use aluminum panels riveted to vertical posts, which makes single panel replacement straightforward and keeps repair cost tied to the damaged bay rather than the whole side. FRP composite bodies use bonded fiberglass reinforced plywood or foam core panels in wide sections, which gives a smooth exterior with fewer seams but turns a localized puncture into a larger bonded section repair.
Knowing which one you have changes the estimate completely. On a sheet and post body we can pull rivets across two posts, replace the damaged skin, treat the post face, and re rivet with the correct diameter and grip length. On a composite body we cut back to sound laminate, scarf the edges, rebuild the core, and lay in new skin with structural adhesive under clamp pressure. Both are done in shop, and both need the truck to sit long enough for adhesives and coatings to cure at temperature.
Rivet line corrosion is the slow failure that catches fleets off guard. Water tracks behind the panel, sits at the fastener, and works from the inside out. The outside shows a chalky bloom and a stain streak under each rivet head long before anything is loose. Once the post face has pitted, replacing the panel alone puts a new skin over a bad substrate, so the repair has to include treating or replacing the post material behind it.

Rear frame posts, roll up doors and lift gate mounting plates
The rear of a cargo body absorbs more damage than any other part of the truck. Backing into a dock at an angle bends the rear frame post, and once that post is out of plumb the roll up door binds in the track, the seal stops touching, and the latch will not reach. Owners usually report the door first and the post second, but the post is always the repair. Straightening or replacing the corner post and squaring the rear frame comes before any door work.
Roll up door faults come in a predictable order. Panel hinges wear and the slats begin to walk sideways in the track. The track itself gets pinched at the bottom by forklift contact. The counterbalance spring loses tension and the door becomes heavy to lift and slams on the way down. Rollers seize and score the track. We rebuild all of that, replace bottom panels and seals, retension or replace the spring assembly, and reset the track to a squared rear frame.
Lift gate mounting is a structural repair, not an accessory job. Maxon, Tommy Gate and Anthony gates all transfer their load into the rear frame through a mounting plate, and cracks show up at the plate corners, at the weld toe on the frame rail, and at the gusset where the platform arm loads it. We cut out cracked plate material, rebuild with correctly sized stock, weld to the rail with proper preparation, and refinish. Hydraulics and cylinders are gate service items handled by your equipment supplier.

Cab, hood and fairing repair on Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt and Volvo
Heavy truck hoods are large fiberglass or SMC moldings, and they fail in ways that steel does not. A hood that took a low speed hit will show a stress crack running from the headlight opening or the wheel arch rather than a dent. Left alone, that crack travels every time the hood is tilted. We grind the crack out to a V, lay in structural mat and resin on both faces where access allows, rebuild the contour, and refinish the panel. Hood hinge and latch geometry gets checked afterward, because a hood that no longer sits square will crack again in the same place.
Fairings and chassis skirts are the most frequently damaged parts on a highway tractor. A curb, a trailer swing or a low barrier takes out a lower fairing corner, and because the parts are thin thermoplastic or fiberglass with a lot of unsupported span, they crack at the mounting bracket rather than where the impact landed. We repair mounting flanges, replace the bracket structure that pulled through, and refinish. Sleeper roof fairings crack at the mounting feet and at the leading radius, and those get bonded, reinforced and repainted.
Headache rack and deck plate mounting brackets crack from cyclic load, not from impact. The rack tries to twist relative to the frame every time the tractor articulates, and the bracket is the weakest link. We rebuild those mounts with proper gusseting, tie the load into the frame rail rather than into a body panel, and coat everything before install. The same approach applies to light bars, mud flap hangers and cab guards.

Decks, rails and hoists: flatbed and dump body repair
Flatbed damage is usually accumulated rather than sudden. Deck boards split and cup, stake pockets tear out where a chain got loaded sideways, and side rails bow outward from repeated overwidth loads. We replace apitong or laminated deck boards, cut and let in new steel deck sections where the plate has been gouged or dished, and rebuild stake pockets with new stock welded into the rail rather than plated over the tear.
Rail straightening is done cold where the section allows and with controlled heat where it does not. The important part is checking the deck for square after the rail moves, because a bowed rail almost always means the crossmembers under it have shifted. Tarp system rails, roll tarp bows and headboard structure get rebuilt at the same time, since the tarp will not track properly on a rail that is no longer straight.
Dump bodies fail at predictable points. The hoist mount plate cracks at the weld where the cylinder trunnion loads it, the body hinge pin bosses at the rear elongate, the tailgate hinge and latch geometry drifts, and the floor plate wears thin at the front where material loads first. We rebuild hoist mount plates with correctly specified plate and full penetration preparation, re bush hinge points, straighten tailgates and let in new floor and side sheet. Hydraulic pumps, cylinders and PTO systems stay with your equipment service provider.

Fleet color matching, livery and graphics
A single repaired panel on a fleet truck stands out more than the same repair on a personal vehicle, because fleet trucks park in a row. Matching a fleet color means pulling the paint code where one exists, spraying and verifying a spray out card against the actual panel in shop lighting and in daylight, and then blending into adjacent panels rather than taping a hard edge at a body seam. Older fleet whites and reds fade unevenly, and a code match to a ten year old cab will read wrong without blend.
Fleet livery adds a second layer. Most West Covina operators run a specified color plus a vinyl program: unit numbers, cab door decals, reflective conspicuity tape, and body side graphics. We remove usable graphics before paint, refinish, and reinstall or reorder replacements to the same spec so the truck goes back in the rotation matching everything else. Where a customer supplies artwork, we install to the original placement measurements rather than guessing.
Reflective tape placement gets its own attention. Conspicuity tape has to be replaced in the same position and pattern it came off, and a repaired rear frame or side rail is exactly where the old tape gets destroyed. Can you do body work on a truck that is under a fleet maintenance contract elsewhere?
Yes, and it happens constantly. Maintenance contracts cover mechanical service, preventive maintenance and inspections. Collision and body damage is normally excluded or handled through the insurance claim instead. We repair the body, cab, structure and paint, and your maintenance provider keeps everything else. There is no conflict between the two, and we do not touch anything inside their scope.
How long is a box truck down for a bent rear post and a jammed roll up door?
For a typical dock strike where the corner post is bent and the door binds, plan on the truck being with us most of a week. The post straightening or replacement runs in a labor band of roughly ten to twenty hours depending on how far the damage reaches into the header and side rail. Door track, rollers, hinges and a spring reset add several more. Paint and cure time follow. Parts availability is usually the deciding factor.
Do you repaint an entire tractor or only the damaged section?
Either, depending on what the truck needs and what the claim covers. A single fairing or a cab corner gets refinished and blended into the adjacent panels so the repair disappears. A tractor with ten years of oxidation and multiple old repairs often looks worse after a spot repair than before, and in that case a full cab and fairing refinish is the better result. The estimator will tell you plainly which case yours is.
Will you install a new lift gate or only repair the mounting?
We handle the structural side: mounting plate fabrication, crack repair, frame rail reinforcement, gusseting, and mounting a gate assembly to a properly prepared rear frame. Hydraulic power units, cylinders, pumps and the electrical control side of a Maxon, Tommy Gate or Anthony gate are equipment service items and belong with your gate supplier. Tell us at the estimate which parts of the job you want us to carry.
Do you bill a commercial insurance carrier directly for truck damage?
Yes. Commercial auto and physical damage claims are written the same way personal claims are: we document the damage, write a repair estimate, submit it, negotiate supplements when hidden damage appears during teardown, and bill the carrier direct. Bring the claim number and the adjuster contact to the estimate. If the loss involves a third party, bring the exchange information too.
