Specialty and Electric Vehicles Repair for West Covina

Aluminum and composite body, structural and refinish work on Rivian and electric fleet vehicles, with high voltage isolation handled before anything is cut.

Short answer. OCRV Center repairs Rivian and electric fleet vehicle bodies for West Covina owners at the Yorba Linda shop. Work covers aluminum and composite panel repair, bonded and riveted structure, glass, refinish and sensor calibration coordination. High voltage packs, drive units and onboard chargers stay with the manufacturer service network.

OCRV Center works in shop at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, about 22 miles and 30 to 45 minutes from West Covina.

Why an electric vehicle changes the body repair, not just the drivetrain

The part that surprises owners is that the electrical architecture affects the body work itself, not only the mechanical side. A high voltage pack that runs the length of the floor means the floor is structure, and it means heat and current are present in places a technician would otherwise weld without thinking.

Before any cutting, welding or panel removal happens near the pack or its harness routing, the vehicle gets isolated and verified. That is not a formality. It is the step that separates a shop that has worked on these from a shop that is about to learn something expensive.

The second difference is materials. Aluminum, high strength steel and composite panels are joined with structural adhesive and rivets as often as with welds. Repairing them the way you would repair a mild steel fender produces a panel that looks right and behaves wrong in the next impact.

Sensors, calibration and why the bumper is not just a bumper

Driver assistance sensors live behind bumper covers, in mirror housings and at the top of the windshield. Removing, replacing or even significantly repairing any of those parts moves the sensor relative to the vehicle, and a sensor that is a fraction of a degree off reports a lane or a following distance that is not there.

That means calibration is part of the repair, not an optional add on afterward. It also means the estimate has to carry the calibration line from the beginning. Carriers that push back on recalibration after a bumper repair are pushing back on a manufacturer requirement, and that is a conversation worth having before the vehicle is reassembled.

We coordinate calibration as part of the job rather than handing you a finished vehicle and a list of places to take it next.

Scope boundary on electric vehicles

We perform body, structural, panel, glass, refinish and equipment work on Rivian and electric fleet vehicles, and we handle the isolation and verification that has to happen first.

We do not service high voltage battery packs, drive units, inverters or onboard chargers. Those stay with the manufacturer service network. If a job reveals damage to any of them, we document it, stop, and tell you before going further rather than working around it.

  • In scope: aluminum and composite panel repair and replacement
  • In scope: bonded and riveted structural repair
  • In scope: glass, refinish and factory color matching
  • In scope: high voltage isolation and verification before body work
  • In scope: calibration coordination after bumper or glass work
  • Not in scope: high voltage battery packs and drive units
  • Not in scope: inverters and onboard chargers

Factory color on a Rivian is not a standard automotive palette

The launch palette leans on colors with unusual pigment and flake behavior, and several of them shift noticeably depending on the angle and the light. Matching one from a code alone produces a panel that looks correct in the booth and wrong in a parking lot.

The only reliable method is a spray out card checked against the actual vehicle under the light it lives in, followed by a blend into the adjacent panels rather than a hard edge at the seam. That takes longer than a single stage respray and it is the difference between a repair you can see and one you cannot.

Getting an electric vehicle here from West Covina

The shop is at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, roughly 22 miles from West Covina. Most owners take the 10 or the 60 west to the 57 south, then the 91 east to Imperial Highway. Figure 30 to 45 minutes.

If the vehicle is not drivable, arrange transport before it is moved. A damaged electric vehicle should not be dragged onto a flatbed by someone improvising, and it should not be stored tightly against other vehicles until the pack condition is known. Tell us when it is coming so we can stage it appropriately.

Questions we get asked

Can you work on a Rivian if the battery pack was hit

We isolate and verify before anything is touched, and if the inspection shows damage to the pack itself we document it, stop, and route that portion to the manufacturer network. We can still handle the body, structural and refinish work around it, but we will not work over a compromised pack or treat it as somebody else's problem later.

Does a bumper repair really need sensor recalibration

Yes, when driver assistance sensors mount to or behind that bumper. Removing and reinstalling the cover moves the sensor relative to the vehicle, and a small angular error becomes a large distance error out at range. It belongs on the estimate from the start rather than as an argument after reassembly.

Why can aluminum panels not just be welded like steel

Because the joining method is part of the design. Structural adhesive and rivets carry load differently than a weld, and heat changes the temper of the surrounding metal. A repair that substitutes one method for another can look correct and still behave wrong in the next impact. We repair to the joining method the vehicle was built with.

Can you match Rivian factory colors

Yes, using a spray out card checked against your actual vehicle under real light rather than mixing from a code alone. Several colors in the palette shift with angle and light, so we blend into adjacent panels instead of stopping at a hard seam edge. It takes longer and it is the reason the repair does not read as a repair.

Do you work on electric delivery vans for fleets

Yes, on the body, structural, panel, glass and graphics side, with the same high voltage isolation step first. Composite body panels on delivery vans behave differently from steel and are often repaired or replaced as sections. Engine equivalent systems, meaning the drive units and packs, stay with the manufacturer network.
