Tell us about the vehicle and the damage. Insurance walk ins are welcome.

Downtime is the real number on a commercial body repair

A private owner asks what a repair costs. A fleet buyer asks what it costs and how long the unit is down, because the second number is usually larger. A delivery van off the road for two weeks in December is not a repair bill, it is a route that has to be covered by overtime or a rental.

So we plan commercial work backward from the return date. That means confirming part availability before the unit comes in, staging paint work so a body sits in the booth once instead of twice, and telling you honestly when a job cannot be compressed. Structural adhesive and refinish both need cure time at temperature, and rushing either produces a repair that comes apart at the seam six months later.

It also means we will say when a unit should stay on the road. Some cosmetic damage is genuinely deferrable to a slower month. An estimator who tells you that is worth more than one who writes the largest possible number.

  • Return to service date agreed before the unit is scheduled
  • Parts confirmed in advance so a unit is not parked waiting on a panel
  • Deferrable cosmetic work identified and scheduled for your slow season
  • Multiple units staggered so your available count never drops below the minimum
  • One point of contact instead of chasing a service writer

What is in scope on a work vehicle and what is not

Start with the boundary, because it saves a phone call. OCRV Center is a collision, body, paint, fiberglass, structural and fabrication facility. On a commercial vehicle we repair sheet metal and composite panels, cab and body structure, body to chassis mounting, glass, the equipment bolted to all of it, and the graphics that go back over it.

We do not open engines, drivetrains, transmissions or differentials. We do not perform heavy truck brake work. We do not perform hydraulic service on a lift gate, a dump hoist or a wrecker boom. We do not issue DOT inspections. Those belong to your maintenance provider or your equipment supplier, and the two scopes do not overlap.

That split is normal in this industry. Your fleet shop keeps the truck legal and running. A body shop puts the truck back together after a dock strike, a low clearance hit, a merge gone wrong on the 10, or ten years of curb rash and rivet line corrosion. Most West Covina fleets run both providers and the handoff is clean.

  • In scope: collision, panel replacement, structural straightening, welding, fiberglass and glass
  • In scope: paint, refinish, livery, reflective striping and decal reapplication
  • In scope: lift gate and equipment mounting plate repair, rack and shelving mounting, fabrication
  • Out of scope: engine, drivetrain, transmission, differential and heavy brake work
  • Out of scope: hydraulic service and DOT inspections of any kind

Purchase orders, fleet numbers and how commercial billing works

Business customers do not want a counter ticket, they want an invoice their accounting system will accept the first time. We take a purchase order number at intake, carry your unit or fleet number on the estimate and on the invoice, and itemize labor, parts, materials and sublet so a line can be matched against a budget code without a phone call.

For multi unit work we can group by unit and still invoice separately, which matters when different departments or different cost centers own different trucks. Supplements are documented the same way, with photographs of what was found and why the scope changed, so an approval can move through your process without a meeting.

If a repair is going through a carrier rather than your own budget, we bill the carrier direct and keep you copied. If it is going through a self insured retention, we can write the estimate to your risk department's format instead.

  • Purchase order number captured at intake and printed on every invoice
  • Unit and fleet numbers carried through estimate, supplement and invoice
  • Labor, parts, materials and sublet itemized for budget coding
  • Supplements documented with photographs before any approval is requested
  • Carrier direct billing available on covered losses

Matching a company color and getting the graphics back on

A fleet has a problem a private owner does not: the repaired unit has to match the units parked next to it. A factory color code is a starting point and rarely the finishing point, because a seven year old truck that lives outdoors in the San Gabriel Valley has drifted from the code on its door jamb, and spraying to book value produces a panel that reads as new against a faded body.

The fix is measurement and blending. We read the actual panel with a spectrophotometer, spray out a card, check it in the light the truck lives in, and blend into adjacent panels rather than cutting a hard edge at a body line. On a white fleet body the blend matters more, not less, because white is the least forgiving color for a mismatch.

Graphics are the other half. Decals, DOT lettering, reflective conspicuity striping and door logos all come off with the panel and have to go back to the same layout. We photograph placement before disassembly and document dimensions so the reinstalled set is positioned where it was, not approximately where it was.

  • Spectrophotometer color read on the actual panel, not the factory code alone
  • Spray out cards checked before the booth, blended into adjacent panels
  • Graphic placement photographed and dimensioned before disassembly
  • Reflective conspicuity striping replaced to pattern
  • Company livery reproduced consistently across a mixed age fleet

Every commercial repair happens in shop at Yorba Linda

We do not send crews to customer yards, job sites or distribution centers, and there is no mobile unit. A vehicle that needs body work is driven or towed to 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, walked with an estimator on the floor, and stays until the work is released. Structural welding, refinish and adhesive cure all require controlled conditions, and a yard cannot provide them.

From West Covina the drive is about 22 miles and 30 to 45 minutes, usually the 10 or the 60 west to the 57 south, then the 91 east to Imperial Highway. Fleets running out of the City of Industry corridor often find the 60 to the 57 the most predictable in the morning. Carbon Canyon Road to the 71 is the alternative when the 57 is stacked, though it is not a route for a long combination.

If a unit is not drivable, coordinate the tow to the shop and we will receive it. Tell the estimator the fleet number and the purchase order when the truck is dropped so intake is complete before anyone touches it.
