Known issues

What we see on Winnebago units

Front cap fiberglass cracking at the windshield lower corners on Class A coaches, driven by chassis flex rather than impact

Rear cap ladder mount and taillight housing cracking on Class C units

Cabover bunk laminate separation on Minnie Winnie and Spirit units stored nose out in sun

Sprinter based View and Navion units cracking at the cab to house joint where two different structures meet

Roof AC gasket compression loss creating a ponding path around the curb

Revel and Solis high roof fiberglass cap seam sealant failing at the front radius

Micro Minnie corner molding and awning rail fastener line letting water into the wall

Model lines we work on: Adventurer, Vista and Sunstar Class A gas, Forza and Horizon diesel, View and Navion Class C on Sprinter chassis, Minnie Winnie and Spirit Class C, Travato, Solis, Boldt and Era Class B camper vans, Revel four wheel drive van, Micro Minnie, Minnie and Minnie Plus towables, Voyage and Access travel trailers, Ekko and Porto.

The Class A front cap, and why it cracks without ever being hit

A very large share of the Winnebago Class A work that comes through this shop is front cap cracking at the lower windshield corners on a coach that has never had an accident. Owners assume something must have hit it. Usually nothing did.

The cause is chassis flex. A long coach on a ladder frame twists as it moves, the fiberglass cap is bonded to a structure that moves with it, and the windshield corner is where the stress concentrates. Over enough miles and enough heat cycles, the gelcoat crazes and then the laminate follows.

Filling and painting the crack treats the appearance and not the cause, which is why those repairs reappear within a year or two. The correct repair grinds back to sound laminate, rebuilds the structure with the right reinforcement schedule, and then refinishes. Done properly the crack does not come back in the same place.

Sprinter based View and Navion units and the cab to house joint

The View and the Navion are a Winnebago house built onto a Mercedes Sprinter cab, and the interesting failures happen exactly where those two things meet. The cab is a stiff unitized structure and the house is not, and the joint between them has to absorb the difference for the life of the coach.

What we see is sealant failure and eventual laminate separation along that transition, plus stress cracking in the fiberglass immediately behind the cab. It is not a defect so much as a consequence of joining two structures that behave differently, and it is entirely repairable when addressed before water gets involved.

Because the cab side is a Mercedes structure, work near it follows Sprinter repair practice rather than RV practice, including scan and calibration where driver assistance sensors are involved.

Camper van roof caps on Revel, Solis and Travato

The high roof fiberglass cap on Winnebago camper vans is bonded to the van shell along a seam that runs the length of the vehicle. That seam lives outdoors, flexes with the body, and is the first thing to open on a van that spends its life in the sun.

Owners usually discover it as a water stain in a headliner corner rather than as a visible gap. By then the sealant path has been open for a while and the substrate under the cap edge may already be affected.

We open the seam, evaluate the bond line rather than just recaulking over it, and rebuild. Recaulking a failed structural bond buys a season and hides the progression.

Factory color and why a Winnebago repaint is not a single color job

Most Winnebago exteriors are a multi color scheme with graphics rather than a single body color, and the panels have weathered at different rates depending on which side faced the sun in storage.

Matching from the factory code alone produces a repaired panel that reads as new next to eight year old paint. We spray out and match to the adjacent weathered panel, then blend rather than stopping at a hard seam edge.

If the graphics are involved, the honest conversation is whether to replicate the original scheme or simplify it. Original schemes on older coaches are frequently unavailable and reproducing them is a custom job with a custom price.

Questions we get asked

My Winnebago front cap is cracked but I never hit anything

That is the normal presentation. Long coaches flex, the fiberglass cap is bonded to a structure that flexes with them, and the lower windshield corners are where stress concentrates. It is a fatigue crack, not an impact crack. Filling and painting it treats the appearance only, which is why those repairs come back. The lasting fix grinds back to sound laminate and rebuilds the structure.

Does my Winnebago View get repaired like an RV or like a Sprinter

Both, depending on the area. The house side follows RV construction practice. Anything at or forward of the cab follows Mercedes Sprinter repair practice, including scan and calibration where driver assistance sensors sit behind the bumper or windshield. The interesting failures happen right at the joint between those two worlds.

There is a water stain in the corner of my Revel headliner

Check the roof cap seam before anything else. On camper vans that bonded seam runs the length of the vehicle, flexes with the body and lives in full sun. It usually fails quietly and shows up first as a stain rather than a visible gap. Recaulking over a failed bond line buys a season. We open it and evaluate the bond itself.

Can you match my Winnebago paint scheme

The body colors, reliably, by spraying out against your actual weathered panels rather than mixing from a code. The graphics depend on age. Original schemes on older coaches are often unavailable, in which case reproducing them becomes custom work. We will tell you which situation you are in before you commit rather than after.
