Older coaches and the parts availability conversation

A large share of the Fleetwood coaches on the road are past the point where factory parts are reliably available. That is normal for the age of the fleet and it is the first thing worth establishing on any Fleetwood repair.

When a factory panel or cap is not available, the options are fabrication, sourcing a salvage part, or repairing the original. Each has a different cost and timeline and each is legitimate depending on the coach.

We tell you which path applies before the coach is in a bay. Discovering a part does not exist after teardown is how a two week repair becomes a two month one, and that is avoidable with a phone call up front.

Front cap cracking on Bounder and Pace Arrow

This is the single most common Fleetwood repair. Cracking at the lower windshield corners on a coach with no accident history is a fatigue crack driven by chassis flex over many miles and many heat cycles.

The cosmetic version of this repair, filling and painting, reopens. The laminate underneath is still weak and still flexing, so the crack propagates back through the filler within a year or two.

The lasting repair grinds back to sound material, rebuilds with a reinforcement schedule that lets the area flex without cracking, then refinishes. It costs more up front and it is the only version that does not come back.

Sidewall laminate on coaches with long outdoor storage

Many Fleetwood coaches have spent years parked outdoors, which is hard on a laminated sidewall. Sun on one side, heat cycling every day, and sealant that has been working since the coach was new.

Delamination on these usually starts at a seam or at the awning rail rather than in the middle of a panel, and it is felt before it is seen. A hand across a warm sidewall finds the soft area first.

How far it has traveled decides whether this is a contained repair or a wall rebuild. That is not knowable from a photograph, which is why remote estimates on delamination are almost always low.

If the coach has not run recently, tell us at intake. A coach that has sat for a year has its own set of considerations that are worth planning for rather than discovering.

Questions we get asked

Can you still get parts for my older Fleetwood

Sometimes, and when we cannot the options are fabrication, salvage sourcing or repairing the original. All three are legitimate depending on the coach. What matters is establishing which path applies before the coach is in a bay, because discovering a part does not exist after teardown is how a two week job becomes a two month one.

My Bounder front cap crack keeps coming back

It was almost certainly repaired cosmetically. Filling and painting a fatigue crack leaves the laminate underneath weak and still flexing, so it propagates back through the filler. The version that does not return grinds back to sound material and rebuilds the structure so the area can flex without cracking.

Can you estimate delamination from photos

We can give you a range, and it will probably be low. How far a wet area has traveled through the laminate is not visible from the surface, and that is the single largest cost variable in the repair. An honest number requires opening it.
