What we see on Keystone RV units
Roof membrane seam separation at the front cap junction on Montana and Cougar units
Slide floor edge softening from compressed seals, the single most common structural finding on high mileage units
Front cap fiberglass crazing above the pin box on Montana High Country and Alpine
Sidewall laminate separation along the awning rail fastener line
Fuzion and Raptor ramp door hinge elongation and rear wall flex under heavy cargo
Corner molding screw backout letting water track inside the wall cavity
Destination trailer frames stressed by long term stationary leveling on uneven ground
Model lines we work on: Montana and Montana High Country fifth wheels, Cougar and Cougar Half Ton, Alpine and Avalanche luxury fifth wheels, Fuzion, Raptor and Carbon toy haulers, Passport, Springdale, Hideout and Bullet travel trailers, Outback and Outback Ultra Lite, Laredo and Sprinter fifth wheels, Residence and Retreat destination trailers.
Montana and Cougar, and the front cap above the pin box
The front cap on a large Keystone fifth wheel sits directly above the pin box, which is where every towing load enters the trailer. It is the highest stress area on the unit and the one most likely to show fatigue.
Crazing in the gelcoat there is an early signal rather than a cosmetic annoyance. It means the laminate underneath is working, and continued towing without addressing it will let the crazing propagate into a structural crack.
Repair on the cap alone is only half the job when the frame below has contributed. We evaluate both, because rebuilding a cap over a frame that is still moving produces a cap that cracks again in the same place.
Why slide seals cause structural damage rather than leaks
Owners expect a failing slide seal to produce a visible drip. It almost never does. The seal compresses over years, loses the shape that shed water off the top of the room, and water begins running down the face of the room instead.
It collects at the bottom edge where the room meets the sidewall. That is a hidden joint, so the water sits there and works on the subfloor with nothing to give it away until the floor softens underfoot.
This is the highest value inspection on a used Keystone towable. Press the floor at each slide opening. Any give at all is worth investigating now rather than next season.
Destination trailers and the cost of long term leveling
Residence and Retreat units are designed to sit, and sitting for years on ground that is not level puts a sustained twist into the frame that a traveling trailer never experiences.
The results are gradual and structural: doors that stop latching, slide rooms that stop sealing, window frames that develop leaks at one corner only. Each is a symptom of a chassis that has taken a set.
Correcting this means addressing the leveling and the frame together. Fixing the door alone on a twisted frame lasts until the next season.

Towables need a tow vehicle in and can be left. If there is an insurance claim in play, photograph the damage before moving the trailer and bring the claim number to intake.

Questions we get asked
There are hairline cracks in my Montana front cap, is it urgent
It is worth addressing rather than watching. Crazing above the pin box means the laminate is working under towing load, and continued towing propagates it. It is also worth checking the frame below, because a cap rebuilt over a frame that is still moving will crack again in the same place.
How do I check my Keystone for slide related floor damage
Press the floor firmly at the bottom edge of each slide opening, right where the room meets the sidewall. Any softness or give at all is worth investigating. This failure never announces itself with a visible drip, which is why it is usually found late.
My destination trailer doors have stopped latching properly
That usually points at the frame rather than the doors. Units that sit for years on ground that is not level take a sustained twist that a traveling trailer never sees, and doors, slides and window corners all report it at once. Correcting the leveling and the frame together is the durable fix.
