What we see on Pleasure Way units
High roof fiberglass cap seam sealant failing along the length of the vehicle
Pop top canvas and lift mechanism wear on Tofino units
Rear door and hatch seal compression from repeated use
Driver assistance calibration required after any front end or windshield work
Interior cabinetry attachment points working loose on high mileage vans
Awning rail mounting on a van body that flexes more than an RV wall
Solar and roof accessory penetrations creating water paths
Model lines we work on: Plateau on Sprinter chassis, Ascent and Ascent TS, Ontour and Ontour 2.0 on Promaster, Tofino pop top vans, Rekon four wheel drive vans, Lexor on earlier model years.
The roof cap seam is the failure to watch
Every high roof camper van has a fiberglass cap bonded to a van shell along a seam that runs the length of the vehicle. That seam lives outdoors, flexes as the van body flexes, and is the single most common water path on this class of vehicle.
It fails quietly. Owners find it as a stain in a headliner corner rather than as a visible gap, and by then the bond line has been open long enough for water to reach the substrate at the cap edge.
Recaulking over a failed structural bond buys a season and hides the progression. We open the seam and evaluate the bond itself, which is the only version of this repair that lasts.
Roof accessories and every hole they require
Solar panels, fans, antennas and racks all require penetrations through the roof, and each one is a potential water path for the life of the vehicle.
On an RV wall those penetrations sit in a relatively stable structure. On a van roof they sit in sheet metal that flexes with the body, so the sealant around them works harder and fails sooner.
Any camper van in the shop for other work gets those penetrations inspected. It is a five minute check that prevents a headliner and cabinetry job later.
Front end work means calibration
Sprinter, Promaster and Transit chassis carry radar, camera and sensor hardware behind the fascia and at the windshield. Any repair that disturbs their position requires scan and calibration.
That is a safety requirement rather than a shop preference. A sensor aimed slightly off reports incorrect distances, and the driver assistance systems relying on it act on that reading.
Work forward of the cab follows automotive practice on these vehicles. The living side follows RV practice. We do both to the appropriate standard.

Questions we get asked
I found a stain in my van headliner corner
Check the roof cap seam first. On a high roof camper van that bonded seam runs the length of the vehicle, flexes with the body and lives in full sun. It fails quietly and shows up as a stain long before a visible gap. Recaulking over a failed bond buys a season and hides the progression.
Are solar panel mounts a leak risk
Yes, more so than on an RV. Roof penetrations on a van sit in sheet metal that flexes with the body, so the sealant works harder and fails sooner than the same detail on a relatively stable RV wall. Any van in for other work gets those penetrations checked. It takes five minutes.
Do you handle the chassis side as well as the camper side
Yes, each to its appropriate standard. Work forward of the cab follows automotive practice, including scan and calibration whenever a repair disturbs radar, camera or sensor mounting. The living side follows RV practice. They are genuinely different disciplines on the same vehicle.
