# Personal and Family Owners

Private RV, camper, van and trailer owners in West Covina bring their vehicle to OCRV Center in Yorba Linda, about 22 miles and 30 to 45 minutes away. We handle collision, fiberglass, structural, roof, slide, awning and systems repair, write estimates at the shop, and bill insurance carriers direct.

## What a family owned RV needs from a body shop that a car does not

A car is one structure. An RV is several structures bolted, bonded and sealed to each other, and every one of them moves at a different rate going down the 60. The chassis flexes. The house body twists. The roof membrane stretches in the sun and shrinks overnight. Sealant beads pull away from that motion a little at a time. A shop that only knows unibody cars will fix the dent you can see and miss the seam that let water into the wall behind it.

That is why an RV estimate takes longer to write than a car estimate. Before a number goes on paper, someone has to know whether the sidewall is a laminated sandwich with an azdel or luan core, whether the front cap is a single fiberglass molding or a segmented panel, whether the slide runs on a Schwintek rail, a Power Gear hydraulic ram or a BAL Accu Slide cable system, and whether the damage reached the framing behind any of it.

The other difference is what the vehicle carries. A car holds people for an hour. A motorhome holds a water system, a propane system, a twelve volt system, a shore power system and a roof full of penetrations, and a collision can disturb all of them at once. We check what the impact touched instead of assuming the repair stops at the panel line.

- Laminated sidewall construction inspected for core damage, not just surface cracking
- Slide mechanism identified by system before any room is cycled
- Roof penetrations, seams and lap sealant checked wherever a repair reaches the roof line
- Water, twelve volt and shore power systems verified when a collision reached a bay
- Written findings you can hand to an adjuster who has never seen an RV

## How an insurance claim works when the damaged vehicle is your vacation

Most private owners arrive mid claim and worried. The adjuster wrote a number from photos, the number looks low, and nobody has explained why. That is normal, and it is fixable. Photo estimates capture the visible panel and almost never capture the hidden structure, the sealant work, the interior reinstallation or the paint blend that the repair actually requires.

We write the estimate at the shop with the vehicle in front of us, document the hidden damage as we find it, and submit a supplement with photographs and part numbers. Carriers pay supplements every day. What they do not pay is an unsupported request, so the documentation is the whole job. Insurance walk ins are welcome at the Yorba Linda shop and you do not need an appointment to have a claim looked at.

You are also allowed to choose your repair facility. A carrier can recommend a direct repair shop, and a recommendation is not an assignment. If a preferred shop is a car facility that has never disassembled a laminated sidewall, you are entitled to say no. We deal with adjusters daily and we can take that conversation off your plate.

- Estimates written on the vehicle, not from photographs
- Hidden damage documented with photos and part numbers as it is found
- Supplements submitted and negotiated with the adjuster directly
- You choose the repair facility, not the carrier
- Claim status explained in plain language, at every step

## The drive from West Covina to the Yorba Linda shop

The shop sits at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, about 22 miles from West Covina. Plan on 30 to 45 minutes in a car and closer to an hour in a forty foot coach at a comfortable pace. Most owners take the 10 or the 60 west to the 57 south, then the 91 east to Imperial Highway. When the 57 backs up through Brea, Carbon Canyon Road across to the 71 is the shortcut locals use, though it is tight and slow in anything long.

We are not located in West Covina and we do not claim to be. There is no satellite location and there is no mobile service. Every repair happens inside the building at Yorba Linda, because paint, structural work and adhesive cure all need controlled conditions that a driveway cannot provide.

For a big rig, the practical answer is to make the drive once. Bring the vehicle in for the estimate, let the estimator walk it with you on the floor, and leave it if the work is authorized that day. Owners from South Hills, Woodside Village, Merced Manor and Sunset Hills do exactly that, and it saves a second round trip in something that gets single digit fuel economy.

## The repairs private owners bring us most often

The list is shorter than you would expect. Water intrusion leads it, because Southern California sun cooks sealant, sealant shrinks, and a hairline opening at the front cap seam or around a roof vent flange lets water track sideways along the framing until the ceiling stains a foot away from the actual leak. By the time it shows inside, the wall has usually been wet for a season.

Right after that comes low speed impact. Awnings taken off by a wind gust or a carport post. Rear caps cracked by a tow bar or a dump station. Corners cut too tight at a fuel island. Ladder and bike rack mounts that pulled their backing plates through the fiberglass. None of it is dramatic and all of it is expensive to ignore, because a cracked cap seam is also an open seam.

Third is the slide out. A Schwintek room that loses sync between the two rails will rack in the opening and jam, and forcing it with the switch strips gear teeth and scores the wall. Owners often report it as a motor problem when the real fault is a worn wiper seal, a sagging floor or a room that was never re synced after the last repair.

- Water intrusion at the front cap seam, roof vent flanges and clearance light bases
- Sidewall delamination that starts as a soft spot and bubbles once the sun heats the panel
- Awning arm, fabric and roller damage from wind and low clearance strikes
- Cracked fiberglass caps, corner radius cracks and gelcoat crazing
- Slide out rooms out of sync, jammed, or leaking at the bulb and wiper seals

## Planning a repair around your trip calendar

Tell us the departure date at the first conversation. It changes how the job is planned. If a rally, a reservation at a state park or a family trip is fixed on the calendar, the estimator can sequence the work so anything affecting weather tightness and drivability lands first, and cosmetic items that can wait get scheduled for a later visit.

Parts are usually what sets the timeline, not labor. Fiberglass caps, molded panels and glass for older coaches can take weeks to come from the manufacturer, and a discontinued panel may need to be fabricated instead. Knowing that on day one is far better than learning it in week three, so we order long lead items as soon as the work is authorized rather than waiting for the vehicle to reach the bay.

Collision estimates are written at the shop. Estimates for RV systems work covering slides, awnings, water, electrical and generator repair carry a set fee that is credited against an authorized repair, and diagnostic time is billed hourly and credited the same way. That policy exists because real diagnosis on a coach takes real hours, and we would rather charge for the hour than guess.

- Bring your departure date to the first appointment
- Long lead parts ordered at authorization, not at bay assignment
- Weather tightness and drivability sequenced ahead of cosmetic work
- Estimate fees credited against an authorized repair
- Call (949) 799-3387 to check current scheduling before you make the drive
