## The Class C cabover, and why it is the first thing we inspect

On a Coachmen Class C, the cabover nose is the part that takes the most abuse and gets the least attention. It sits forward of the cab, it catches every bit of sun and road weather, and it is built as a laminated structure hanging out over the truck cab.

Delamination there typically starts at the upper radius where the cap curves, and it starts small. A hand run across the surface finds a soft area long before an eye finds a bubble. Owners who check the cabover once a season catch it while it is a contained repair.

Left alone, the wet area spreads through the laminate and eventually reaches the bunk floor structure. At that point the repair moves from a panel job to a structural one, and the cost changes accordingly.

## Slide problems on Coachmen towables that are not slide problems

A very common call on Catalina and Freedom Express units is that the slide has stopped working correctly. The room binds, or it comes in crooked, or the motor labors.

In a meaningful share of those cases the mechanism is fine. What has changed is the floor. Extended stays on uneven leveling, plus normal deflection under the weight of a room that cantilevers out, gradually let the opening drop out of square. The mechanism is then fighting geometry rather than failing.

This matters because the two repairs are completely different. Replacing a motor on a sagging opening produces a new motor that will fail the same way. We check the opening for square before we touch the mechanism.

## Lightweight construction and what it means for repair

The Apex Nano, Clipper and similar ultra light platforms achieve their weight by using less material, and that is a legitimate engineering trade rather than a flaw. It does change how they respond to damage and to repair.

Point loads matter more. A floor that is fine under distributed weight can flex noticeably under a jack stand placed in the wrong spot, and a repair that adds significant local mass can create a stiff area that concentrates stress at its edge.

We repair these to match the original construction rather than over building them. Making one section dramatically stiffer than its neighbors moves the next failure rather than preventing it.

### My slide binds, do I need a new motor

Maybe not. Check whether the opening is still square first. Extended stays on uneven leveling and normal deflection under a cantilevered room can let the opening drop, and then the mechanism is fighting geometry rather than failing. ### Should I seal a leak myself before bringing it in
